A Conversation with Loureiro's Summer Interns

July 26th, 2023

In honor of National Interns Day on July 27, we're happy to celebrate the incredible contributions of all the bright and motivated interns that worked with Loureiro this summer. From marketing, corporate, and legal to engineering and construction, our interns brought fresh perspectives and tackled challenges with enthusiasm. Recently, we sat down with the group and talked to them about their experience at Loureiro.

Adisa Gjonbalaj

Environmental Engineering Intern

What's the most valuable thing you'll take away from your internship at Loureiro and why?

"The most valuable thing I can take away from this internship is the hands-on experience in and out of the field. I learned many remediation techniques and conducted numerous sampling/testing jobs which allowed me to develop skills, make connections and collaborate with a team."

Chrystel Acosta

Industrial Services Intern

What really drew you to an internship at Loureiro?

"What really drew me to intern at Loureiro during my interviewing process was the invigorating environment established by my interviewer, James Prescott. By the end of the meeting, we had bonded over our shared experience as first-generation college students who didn’t have a mentor to guide us in the right direction. The most valuable thing I’ll take away from my internship is the privilege of having my first project manager be an exceptional mentor."

Riley Prewett

Facility Engineering Intern

What is the most valuable thing you'll take away from your internship and why?

"The availability of diverse experiences. I was constantly learning from both myself and my colleagues, inside and outside of my division. Working with a company like Loureiro and having a flexible supervisor allowed me to work on projects outside of my focus to truly understand what I enjoyed doing as a Chemical Engineer. At Loureiro, I never once felt restricted to what I could try and everyone around me supported my learning."

Luna Daury

Building and Land Engineering Intern

What was your favorite moment or experience during your time at Loureiro?

"I appreciate how Loureiro creates opportunities for interns and new hires to introduce each other though lunches and events. There is a strong sense of community and a teamwork dynamic where I feel very comfortable learning and asking questions to improve my knowledge."

Kyle Manir

Facility Engineering Intern

What is the most valuable thing you'll take away from your internship and why?

"The most valuable thing I'll take away from my internship is my hands-on experience. It helped me bridge the gap between theory and practice and taught me how to navigate unexpected obstacles, adapt to change, and overcome complex problems. Working at a consulting company has helped me grasp the nuances and intricacies of constraints and considerations involved in engineering projects."

Benjamin Mariorenzi

Construction Management Intern

What is the most valuable thing you'll take away from your internship and why?

"I think the most valuable thing I’ve taken from my internship so far has been the precon / estimating process. I’ve noticed that in construction time is money and precon is huge part of a successful project."

Diandra Dietrich-Celotto

Construction Management Intern

What was your favorite moment or experience during your time at Loureiro?

"What I absolutely love about my internship is the ability to visit the project sites almost every day. It’s incredible to see the craft personnel in action, bringing the plans to life and turning the drawings into actual structures. My favorite site visit so far has been the Folly Brook Culvert project when I got to walk under I-384 inside the 10 ft pipe."

Arianna Fandozzi

Legal Intern

What was your favorite moment or experience during your time at Loureiro?

"Deciding to return to Loureiro for a second summer was an easy decision. Since my first day at Loureiro I have felt extremely welcomed. Whether it’s exchanging a good morning or sharing stories from the weekend while waiting to get your morning coffee, you can count on a friendly face brightening your day. No matter the department, everyone is very open and willing to answer any questions you may have which makes the environment very learner friendly. I'm thankful that I am able to continue to be a part of the Loureiro family and am looking forward to the future!"

Christopher DeForest

Business Development Intern

What was your favorite moment or experience during your time at Loureiro?

My favorite moment or experience during my internship at Loureiro was part of a project I was working on that gained a truly positive result. The project consisted of listing construction and excavation companies in New England to find potential fill suppliers for Loureiro’s landfill capping projects. My manager gave me the privilege to sit in on a meeting with the president of one of these companies and I got to experience how corporate partnerships can begin. I also got to see how my work as an intern can have an impact on Loureiro.

Olivia Pawlik

Marketing Intern

What is the most valuable thing you'll take away from your internship and why?

"The most valuable thing I will take away from my time here at Loureiro is the hands-on experience of being directly involved in marketing campaigns and tasks. This opportunity has allowed me to learn and apply numerous marketing strategies, create artistic content, and make connections with industry professionals. My time here at Loureiro has provided me with the skills, tools, and connections to be successful after graduation!"
